These situations range from corporations intent on monetising illiquid non-core assets or funding early-stage adjacent businesses to banks, hedge funds or limited partners who wish to rebalance their investment portfolios. In October 2009 Encore acquired the European venture portfolio of 3i in a fund sized at up to £170m and backed by Coller Capital and HarbourVest Partners.
